SQUAWK
A twelve-print series of pigeons
Each bird was brought to life by layering 4 different hand-cut stencils framed by a lino block birdcage border. The challenge of this piece was mapping out and making a small animation with as few frames as possible, as more frames would require more stencils, and more stencils meant more hand cramps.
BIrd up
copper plate etching
robot-bird designed after Louie the parakeet. I found a lot of inspiration from the "Birds aren't real" movement. If it flies, it spies.
The hardest part was etching all those little letters backward so they'd print in the correct orientation. I wanted the design to be complex enough to house little details but simple enough that those little lines would still hold the ink when it came to printing.
Decaf
relief reduction woodblock print
Brought to life through iterations of carving a single wooden block, Decaf is a playful representation of the overcaffeinated experience.
